The Author
Bohdan Shepelavey was born in Zhyznomyr, Ukraine in 1929 and immigrated to the United States in 1950. A Search for the Finite Physics represents the life's work of Bohdan Shepelavey.
Trained as a physicist at the University of Buffalo and UCLA, he worked as a logistical engineer for the General Electric and Westinghouse corporations. He died in 1999.
In his spare time, however, he pursued as a passionate avocation the answers to the problems and conundrums set forth in this book.
Over the course of decades--in maternity ward waiting rooms, in shopping plaza parking lots, at dining room and kitchen tables, on living room and family room sofas--Bohdan teased out their solutions character by character, symbol by symbol.
Bohdan Shepelavey passed away on March 5, 1999, shortly after he had completed a revision of the work you have before you. Among his last requests were that we, his family, see to its publishing. We present this work to you, outside of the usual channels of academic physics, in the hopes that people with the capacity to understand it can judge its significance.
